Jeff - wow - such cynicism! Am ex JW too - 45 years - been free 12 years now. Won't attend any church (all asleep) but have real belief. What brought you to this conclusion?
I went to her FB page, only to find that I was not on her friends list [pending], so I have no idea what particular cynicism to which she refers. I am certainly cynical, as my rational mind examines everything with questions. But, she would have no access to that information, since only friends can see my ramblings. Just found it odd. I replied with a brief statement as to how I became agnostic/atheist assuming this was her basis for what she stated. But no reply. Odd.

Translate The Bible Properly!

the trouble with english bible translations is none of them are correct!

i know something is bound to be lost in any translation, but the bible has so much faith invested in it by religious groups that it is translated wrongly by all of them.

what we need is a translation done by a team of atheists.

The Hebrew portion of the Bible was written for those who spoke Hebrew. It should be left there. It was a Jewish book, written by mostly ignorant Jewish men, to be read by other ignorant Jewish men and women as they studied the Jewish laws and traditions of their time. Much the same [different language, but same ignorance of reality] can be said of the NT.
Why I ever believed that I should adopt as my 'life guide' a book written thousands of years in the past, by men uneducated and believing in superstitious nonsense, while attributing everything unexplainable in their day to 'God' if it was considered good, and the 'Devil' if it was deemed bad, is beyond me. [My apologies for this run on sentence.]
I don't think I can even find room to 'respect' such ignorance. I look back at my own ignorant reliance on such idiocy and nearly toss my cookies.

like all jw's, i didn't give a shit about those sorts of things, unless there was an article in the magazine we were placing that month.

and even then, a very shallow understanding is all that i wanted or needed to 'place' the magazine.

And even then, a very shallow understanding is all that I wanted or needed to 'place' the magazine. Then, after leaving Jw's, I have had a full plate of self-education for the past 7 years. That education has taken me all over the map, and I am truly thankful for having retrieved my mind from the holding-pen it once occupied.
I am about to undergo an effort now to understand the Federal Reserve System in the United States, but honestly, have no idea where to start. I don't think it is what it appears to be, but don't know who to trust in mining that information. The people on this board have always shown such great diversity of knowledge, in so many areas, that I thought it might be the prudent place to start.
Recommendations? Ideas? Suggested reading?

And I am an elder in good standing, pioneering too. I just drop around here once in a while to see just how evil these apostates are in between reading my Bible and attending all the meetings set up by Jehovah. Perhaps we will see each other at the Convention this summer. Praise Jah, sister!

We have two bantam hens who now seem to be in mourning. I guess he was just doing what roosters do - and I guess I was just doing what larger mammals do when roosters do what they do.
